Absolutely! The program took away a significant amount of the fear I had about going to college and living away from home. I got to become familiar with college campuses, especially the dorms, dining halls, and libraries. I also got to experience what it was like going to a unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people who were doing the same, which helped me realize that even when you are scared to venture out to new places where you don’t know anyone else that your nerves will settle sooner than you think.

I want you to know that this is a great return on your investment. These students had a unique experience. Opportunities like this help our university develop strong community relations. I hope that this outstanding summer program can become a standard each summer, supported by UC San Diego

This is program that can’t be matched by any other that I know of! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for our Native Youth! I’ve sent my own daughter and it shows its benefits even long after she came home! If you’re going to donate to a good cause, this is the one! ❤️💛💚”

I wanted to tell you that I had an amazing time on the Northern California youth trip. It was a blessing to be able to meet the people from other tribes and to see what issues they are facing. Being that I’m from two different tribes, seeing other tribes and their traditions is very interesting. Receiving the red tail hawk wing was a huge honor and I would be honored to participate in any other events in the future. Thank you for allowing me to go on this trip and experience the things I did.
— Silent Rain, 2014 Youth Participant, Viejas Kumeyaay Nation.
Having the opportunity to participate in the fitness routines and making it a daily part of my life was a very beneficial in learning to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The Karate, Surfing, and Yoga classes that were offered are different type of fitness classes that most youth on the reservations would never get to experience. The classes taught us not to just be healthy but to take care of our mind, body and soul.

I wanted to let you know my daughter Jayne Antone just completed the San Diego camp. Jayne had a great time and would like to attend again next year. Her father and I are extremely happy she had so many wonderful experiences there, I know she was homesick but it was worth it for her to complete the two weeks and it has helped her grow. We wanted to be sure to thank you and your staff for all your hard work. Great Job! Thank you.

Parents always write ITY, proclaiming the profound change in their youth once they return home. this testimony is hard to translate into common evaluation. this is our deed - give youth an experience of a lifetime
